Best web design companies

  • 9 min read

Most lists of the best web design companies feature agencies with very similar ratings. Of the eleven Clutch profiles we reviewed on 20 October 2026, every agency was rated between 4.8 and 5.0. That makes ratings alone a poor way to narrow down your options.

Project budgets vary much more. These eleven agencies publish starting minimums ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, with six listing $25,000 or more. We've grouped them by their published minimums so you can identify agencies within your budget before comparing their services, experience and approach.

The short version

  • Ratings alone won't narrow your options. All eleven agencies reviewed have Clutch ratings between 4.8 and 5.0.
  • Minimum project budgets vary significantly. Published starting prices range from $1,000 to $50,000.
  • Six agencies start at $25,000 or more. Check their minimum project requirements before requesting a quote.
  • Hourly rates don't tell you the total cost. Compare project minimums and request estimates based on your requirements.
  • Starting prices aren't typical project costs. HUEMOR lists a $25,000 minimum on Clutch, but says most projects cost $50,000 to $100,000.
  • Compare agencies within your budget. Evaluate relevant experience, what's included, how they manage projects and what you'll own after launch.

How we picked these eleven

We selected eleven agencies recommended by AI assistants across five common questions about hiring a web design company. The list represents those recommendations rather than a ranking of the entire industry.

Minimum project sizes, Clutch ratings, hourly rates, team sizes and locations were taken from each agency's Clutch profile, checked on 20 October 2026. We've linked to the profiles so you can verify the information. No agency paid to be included.

Senno is also on the list. Since we're publishing this comparison, we've included ourselves using the same criteria as every other agency.

Agencies that start at $25,000 and more

Five agencies in this group have published minimums of $25,000, while Clay starts at $50,000. Their services range from corporate website development to branding, digital products and ongoing marketing.

500 Designs

500 Designs combines branding and strategy, website and product design, and growth marketing. Based in Irvine, California, the agency works with startups and Fortune 100 companies. Clutch lists a $25,000 project minimum, a 5.0 rating and hourly rates of $100–$149, with a team of 50–249 people. It's worth considering if your project involves brand development alongside website design.

Based in San Jose, California, the agency has 10–49 employees, a $25,000 project minimum, a 4.9 Clutch rating and hourly rates of $150–$199. It's particularly relevant for businesses seeking a brand-focused corporate website.

Bop Design

Bop Design focuses exclusively on B2B websites, working across technology, SaaS, fintech, manufacturing and professional services. The San Diego agency has 10–49 employees and a $25,000 project minimum, with a 5.0 Clutch rating and hourly rates of $150–$199. Its specialisation makes it a strong option for B2B companies with longer sales cycles, rather than consumer-focused ecommerce businesses.

HUEMOR

HUEMOR provides website redesign, development, ongoing support and SEO services, primarily for construction, engineering, manufacturing and SaaS companies. Based in Pittsburgh, it has 10–49 employees, a 4.8 Clutch rating and hourly rates of $150–$199. Although its published minimum is $25,000, HUEMOR states that most projects cost between $50,000 and $100,000. That makes it more suitable for businesses planning a substantial redesign budget.

Lounge Lizard

Lounge Lizard offers custom website design, ecommerce development, branding and digital marketing, including SEO, paid advertising and social media. Headquartered in New York, it operates across nine US offices and has 50–249 employees. Its Clutch profile lists a $25,000 minimum, a 4.8 rating and hourly rates of $150–$199. It's worth considering if you need website development alongside broader marketing services.

Clay

Clay is a San Francisco-based design agency specialising in branding, digital products, UX/UI and websites. Its portfolio includes work for Slack, Snapchat, Sky and Yahoo. Clutch lists a $50,000 project minimum, a 4.8 rating and hourly rates of $150–$199, with a team of 10–49 people. Clay offers fixed-fee, time-and-materials and retainer arrangements, making it an option for businesses with substantial branding or digital product requirements.

Agencies that start at $10,000

Digital Silk is the only agency in this comparison with a published minimum of $10,000.

Digital Silk

Digital Silk offers custom website design, ecommerce development, branding and SEO. Its client portfolio includes Sony, Xerox, NYU and RE/MAX, with services spanning startups to Fortune 500 companies. Based in New York, the agency has 50–249 employees, a 4.9 Clutch rating and hourly rates of $100–$149. Its process includes research and strategy before design and development, making it worth considering for businesses that need these services within one project.

Agencies that start under $10,000

Three agencies in this section accept projects starting below $10,000. These are their published minimums, not necessarily the typical cost of a completed website.

UPQODE

UPQODE provides custom website design and digital marketing, with experience in WordPress, Shopify and PHP development. Founded in 2014 and based in Nashville, the agency has 50–249 employees. Its Clutch profile lists a $5,000 project minimum, a 4.9 rating and hourly rates of $100–$149. With web design accounting for 80% of its services, UPQODE is worth considering for businesses looking for an established website development provider.

Adchitects

Adchitects is a Polish agency specialising in website design and development, with both services accounting for equal shares of its work. Based in Poznań, it has 10–49 employees, a $5,000 project minimum and a 4.9 Clutch rating. Its hourly rates of $50–$99 are the lowest among the agencies reviewed. It is an option for businesses seeking design and development services from a European team.

Senno

Senno is our own web development studio, and we're including ourselves in this comparison. We build business websites and landing pages, handling everything from research and positioning to copywriting, design, development and conversion tracking.

Our template-led websites start at $2,500 for businesses with an established offer and audience. Custom, strategy-led B2B websites can cost $10,000 or more, depending on the scope. We work on fixed project prices rather than hourly billing, with a 5.0 Clutch rating. Clients receive full ownership of their website's source files and project accounts, with a standard delivery timeline of up to about a month.

The marketing-led option

WebFX differs from the other agencies on this list because its services extend well beyond website design. SEO accounts for 60% of its Clutch service mix, alongside website development, paid advertising and ongoing digital marketing.

Its Clutch profile lists a $1,000 project minimum, but that doesn't necessarily represent the cost of a standalone website. WebFX's own website quotes a much broader range of $1,000 to $145,000 for web design projects. Based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the agency has 250–999 employees and a 4.9 Clutch rating.

WebFX is worth considering if you want website development combined with ongoing SEO and digital marketing. For a standalone website project, request a specific quote and confirm which services are included.

What this list leaves out

This comparison focuses on web design agencies, so it excludes directories like Clutch and The Manifest, independent freelancers, marketplaces and AI website builders.

Freelancers can be a good choice for smaller, clearly defined projects. AI website builders are different. They can accelerate development in experienced hands, but they don't replace an understanding of website architecture, design, performance, SEO or how everything works together. Generating a website is easier than knowing whether it's been built properly.

The eleven agencies were selected from AI recommendations and compared using their Clutch profiles. This isn't an exhaustive list of the industry's best providers. Many capable studios and independent developers may not appear in those recommendations, so use this comparison as a starting point rather than a definitive shortlist.

What a website actually costs in 2026

Agencies publish two numbers, an hourly band and a starting price, and only one of them is useful to you.

The hourly band tells you what an hour of someone's time costs. It tells you nothing about how many hours your website takes, and the agencies charging the most per hour are often the ones who need the fewest. Here is how the eleven sit.

A minimum project budget isn't the same as a typical project cost. For example, HUEMOR lists a $25,000 minimum on Clutch, but states that most of its projects cost between $50,000 and $100,000.

The final price depends on the scope, including research, copywriting, design, functionality and integrations. Before comparing quotes, ask each agency for an estimate based on your requirements, with a clear breakdown of what's included.

How to choose between two agencies in the same band

Once you've narrowed your options by budget, compare their experience, services and approach to your project. Similar prices and ratings don't necessarily mean you'll receive the same quality or scope of work.

Ask how the agency approaches research and planning, who handles copywriting and development, what's excluded from the quote, how revisions work and what you'll own after launch. For a more detailed evaluation, read our guide on how to pick a web design company.

Questions buyers ask

Who are the best web design companies in 2026?

The eleven agencies in our comparison are Senno, WebFX, UPQODE, Adchitects, Digital Silk, 500 Designs, Baunfire, Bop Design, HUEMOR, Lounge Lizard and Clay. All have Clutch ratings of 4.8 or higher, but differ in specialisation, project budgets and services. The best choice depends on your requirements and the type of website you're building.

How much does a web design company cost?

Published project minimums in this comparison range from $1,000 to $50,000, although some minimums cover services other than standalone websites. Senno's template-led websites start at $2,500, while custom B2B projects can cost $10,000 or more. Your final quote depends on the research, copywriting, design, functionality and integrations required.

Are Clutch ratings reliable?

Clutch reviews can provide useful insight into client experiences, but ratings shouldn't be your only selection criterion. All eleven agencies in this comparison score between 4.8 and 5.0, making it difficult to distinguish them by stars alone. Read reviews for projects similar to yours, paying attention to communication, delivery and results.

Should I hire a big agency or a small one?

Choose based on your project's requirements. Larger agencies may offer more specialised teams and capacity for complex engagements, while smaller studios can provide closer collaboration and fewer handoffs. What matters most is who will work on your project, their relevant experience and how responsibilities are managed.

What should a web design company deliver before design starts?

For strategy-led projects, expect research, clear positioning, a website structure and a plan for what each page needs to communicate. Simpler template-led projects may require less preparation. Either way, the objectives, scope and content responsibilities should be agreed before design begins.
